The development team behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has recently shared insights into the future of its innovative omnimovement system, which allows players to execute directional movements like sprinting, sliding, and diving. Initially divisive at launch, this new mechanic has found favor with many players as they’ve adjusted to its unique style. Fans are now wondering if omnimovement will remain in future installments of the Call of Duty series. Launched on October 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the 21st installment in the franchise and introduces significant changes, including the omnimovement system. While many familiar gameplay elements remain, omnimovement marks a shift in how players approach combat. Matt Scronce, the Associate Director of Design, has provided some insight into the team’s thinking behind this new feature, while Miles Leslie, the Associate Creative Director, elaborated on its future in a recent interview with Dexerto.

Leslie expressed strong belief in the potential of omnimovement, noting that it has been “inspiring” to watch players master the new system and make high-level plays. He also stated that Treyarch hasn’t yet seen the limits of its potential. While he didn't provide a definitive answer on whether omnimovement will be a mainstay in future Call of Duty titles, Leslie’s comments suggest it is highly likely, particularly for future Treyarch-developed installments.

In addition to omnimovement, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 introduces other new mechanics, such as the Body Shield move. This tactical feature allows players to take an enemy hostage and use them as a human shield while still being able to fire. Although not as groundbreaking as omnimovement, the Body Shield move showcases the franchise’s continued innovation.

Leslie also teased the return of classic maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, mentioning that Hacienda from Black Ops 4 had already been remastered. He hinted that more classic maps are set to return, with “no previous Black Ops title off the table” for potential remasters. However, he emphasized that the team is focusing on creating original designs for most post-launch maps in Black Ops 6.

For players who have yet to experience the latest Call of Duty features, there is currently a limited-time free trial available, giving players access to both the Multiplayer and Zombies modes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
